From your first 3D scan to your final crown
Dr. Nick Ohanian, DDS, MS, handles your implant himself, from the consultation and 3D planning through surgical placement and your final implant crown. Dr. Katherine Ohanian, DDS, and our registered dental hygienists, Lucy and Hilary, help keep your implant healthy for the long run with regular cleanings and checkups. Dr. Nick also places implants at our Beverly Hills office.
What to Expect
Your dental implant, step by step
1. Consultation and 3D scan: Dr. Nick examines your mouth and takes a 3D cone beam (CBCT) scan in our office to see your bone in detail.
2. Digital planning: Your implant's exact position, angle and size are planned on the 3D scan before treatment begins.
3. Implant placement: A Straumann or Neodent implant is placed with local anesthesia, plus oral or IV sedation if you prefer.
4. Healing: The implant bonds with your jawbone over a few months while you go about your normal routine.
5. Your new tooth: We attach a custom crown matched to your natural teeth, and Lucy and Hilary keep it clean at your regular visits.

How long does the process take?
Your consultation and 3D scan come first. After the implant is placed, it usually heals for about three to four months before your custom crown goes on. If you need a bone graft, we'll give you a timeline at your consultation.
How long do dental implants last?
With good home care and regular cleanings, implants are built to last for decades, often a lifetime.
Does dental insurance cover implants?
Many PPO plans, including Delta Dental, MetLife, Aetna, Cigna, Guardian and United Healthcare, cover part of the treatment. We check your benefits and go over your costs before you start.
