Your Emergency Dental Team

Experienced, gentle care when you need it most

Dr. Nick Ohanian, DDS, MS, and Dr. Katherine Ohanian, DDS, treat dental emergencies right here in our newly remodeled La Cañada Flintridge office, with easy parking. We take X-rays and, when needed, a 3D cone beam (CBCT) scan in the office to find the problem quickly, and treatment can often begin at the same visit. Oral and IV sedation are available for anxious patients, and we accept Delta Dental. Hablamos español. We also see emergencies at our Beverly Hills office. Once you are out of pain, ask us about porcelain veneers in La Cañada to restore a damaged smile.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

First steps to take before your visit

Toothache: Rinse with warm water, gently floss to remove any trapped food, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed. Do not put aspirin directly on your gum.

Broken or chipped tooth: Save any pieces, rinse your mouth with warm water, and hold a cold compress on your cheek to keep swelling down.

Knocked-out tooth: Pick it up by the crown, not the root, and rinse it gently. Try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in a cup of milk, and call us right away. A tooth has the best chance of being saved when it is seen within an hour.

Lost filling or crown: Keep the crown and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side until we can see you.

Swelling or abscess: Swelling in your gum or face can mean an infection that needs prompt care. Call us the same day.

When to go to the ER: If swelling makes it hard to breathe or swallow, or you have a high fever, heavy bleeding or a serious injury to your face or jaw, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
